Accessing VPN

There are two ways of accessing Lakeland's VPN connection from off campus. Connecting to the VPN at the login screen allows an individual to login to a domain joined computer without requiring the individual to have logged in once before on campus. The VPN allows access to applications and network shares that require a connection back to Lakeland owned resources.

Adding MFA Authentication Method

If you have existing authentication methods already setup for MFA, but wish to add a new type of authentication method to your account, please see these instructions.

Changing Default MFA Authentication Method

Please follow these instructions if you want to change the default authentication method for MFA on your account.

Creating an App Password

These instructions will guide you through the process of creating an app password which may be needed for some applications when MFA is enabled on your account.

MFA Number Matching

Number matching is now a part of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in order to prevent MFA fatigue attacks. When cybercriminals flood a specific person with MFA mobile push notifications, the targeted individual may be more prone to approve a MFA request that was initiated by the cybercriminals. Microsoft has enabled this now to make accounts more secure.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) App Setup

These instructions will guide you through the process of setting up MFA on your mobile device if you have a smartphone. If you don't have a smartphone, please contact the IT Department for further instructions on how to setup MFA.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Setup without SmartPhone

These instructions will guide you through the process of setting up MFA using a cellphone that isn't a smartphone. If you don't have a cellphone, please contact the IT Department for further instructions on how to setup MFA.

Opening Applications on Remote Gateway

Opening applications on the remote gateway is now a little different. You will see a Fortinet logo and have to select an option before opening an application to bypass the MFA request.

Setting Default MFA Authentication Method to Push Notifications or Phone Call

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is now required for the remote gateway (https://remote.lakeland.edu) and only push notifications with the Microsoft Authenticator App or a phone call will work in order to successfully login.
