Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) App Setup

Before You Begin

  • Have your mobile phone available.
  • Install the latest version of the Microsoft Authenticator app: Microsoft Authenticator for iPhone/iPad or Microsoft Authenticator for Android.
  • Use a second device, such as a laptop or desktop computer, to complete the setup. This makes it easier to scan the QR code with your phone.
  • If you are already signed in to Microsoft 365 in your browser, you may need to use a private or incognito browser window.

Set Up Microsoft Authenticator

  1. On your computer, open a web browser and go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
  2. Sign in with your Lakeland University email address and password.
  3. If prompted that more information is required, select Next.
  4. On the Security info page, select Add sign-in method.
  5. Choose Microsoft Authenticator, and then select Add.
  6. Follow the prompts until a QR code appears on your computer screen.
  7. On your phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
  8. Tap the + button, and then choose Work or school account.
  9. Select Scan QR code, and scan the QR code shown on your computer.
  10. After the account is added, return to your computer and select Next.
  11. Approve the test notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app.
  12. When setup is complete, select Done.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If you do not see the Security info page, try opening the link in a private or incognito browser window.
  • If you cannot scan the QR code, select the option to enter the code manually and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • If Microsoft Authenticator is already set up on an old or unavailable phone, contact the Help Desk so your MFA methods can be reset.
  • If you receive repeated prompts or errors during setup, close all browser windows, reopen a private or incognito window, and try again.

Need Help?

If you are unable to complete MFA setup, please contact the Lakeland University Help Desk at helpdesk@lakeland.edu. Include the error message you received, the type of phone you are using, and whether you still have access to any previously configured authentication methods.
